Otium: The Artisan Story

Timothy Hollingsworth, chef and owner of Otium restaurant located in Los Angeles, places great emphasis on supporting local purveyors, artisans, and craftsman, encouraging artists to gather together and collaborate with one another. Upon opening his first solo project, Otium, Hollingsworth releases control and allows local artisans the ability to do what they do, in their own creative space, throughout the construction of his new restaurant. This video, among many on my blog, is considered one of my favorites. Hollingsworth, in relinquishing control, allows artists to do their craft, and in doing so finds that these artists want to come back and collaborate with him. This is where food meets community.

"I think it's funny when you let go of control, and you allow different people who are passionate about what they do, do what they do; bringing together people that are good at what they do, allowing them to have their own creative space and collaborate with you, is only going to only make you better."
